Welcome To Cairmar Kennels

Cairmar originated in 1969.  A friend was given a Cairn, and I began a search for a Cairn for myself.  I finally located a male, Brightridge Sandboy, and set about trying to show.  The next 18 months were the most discouraging of my life.   I learned the coat work and how to show fairly well, but my dog always placed last.  After a final show in which I thought he looked the best and showed the best, I turned him over to a professional handler, Bernard Owens, and the dog was finished in about six weeks with group placements.

In 1972, I drove with a friend to the National Cairn Specialty in Chicago.  When it was over, I had gone Best Puppy in Sweepstakes with (Ch.) Cairmar Cantie Croftee, my first homebred champion.  Also, taking Best Puppy Bitch in Sweepstakes with (Ch.) Milbryan Killarney O'Cairmar.  The next day, Croftee went on to go Winners Dog - what a weekend!  Gone were the memories of never defeating another dog.

During the next few years, I acquired four Cairns - the backbone of Cairmar.  They were Ch. Tradorohg's Connamarah, Ch. Caithness Periwinkle, Ch. Caithness Barnabas and Ch. Milbryan Killarney O'Cairmar.
